BADWATER Ultra-Marathon
- The "Badwater Ultra Marathon" is the toughest existing running experience.
- About 80 selected top runners from all over the world were accepted every year as participants.
- Every runner has a supporting team of 2-3 persons. The support team has the task to accompany the runner in the car and supply him with all necessities.
- Medical assistance is not allowed: Each runner has to manage the distance on his own without any doping.
The run over 215 km starts at Badwater – with 86 m below sea level the deepest location in the Western hemisphere – and ends at Mt. Whitney.
The Task
At outside temperatures of more than 50 °C, asphalt temperatures of more than 70 °C, hot winds and possible sand storms, the runners have to manage 215 km non-stop through the Death Valley. The time limit is 60 hours and than means to run and run and run. Every year 30 – 45 % of the participants have to drop out.
